Mas Ass Acres Nick of Time April 27, 2003 Sire: PCF’s Sid Died on April 30, 2012 |
Howdy,
I have been somber for over a week now as one of my favorite donkeys at Mas Ass Acres has passed away into the heavens no more pain and suffering for this beautiful Mammoth Donkey named Nick. Pain is something I live with daily it is not a welcome friend it changes the person we were before the pain arrived, in my opinion no human or animals should suffer from pain it is draining. Pain sucks!
No doubt Nick’s soul is free to eat all the green spring grass he can find and I believe he is playing with his buddy J.R. the mammoth donkey. J.R. is in heaven waiting for Nick. The bible says no pain and suffering in heaven. J.R. will show him around heaven so he is not scared. Donkeys go in two’s they need another donkey to keep them company and play with so no doubt GOD decided it was time J.R. received his good friend Nick to play in heaven with him.
I believe heaven is a place of no more sickness, no more pain and suffering, just a great life. Living in a fallen world affects the animals as much as the people as sickness and death chases after all living things navigating this earth.
Mas Ass Acres Nick of Time was one of the tallest and most gentle Mammoth donkeys I have met and fallen deeply in love with I will miss him deeply and I am a better person for getting the opportunity to meet him he was at least 16’3 hands tall, with a bigger head than Rio, “now that is indeed one gigantic Mammoth donkey.” I never got the opportunity to play with him (parelli) like I did Obo and Tuba but I did always stop and talk to him and give him a rub each and every time I visited the farm. He will be deeply missed, I love you Nick! Laminitis takes the life of way too many horses, donkeys and mules, it is why I write about diet, exercise, clean water over and over again. Even when the diet and environment is correct laminitis can rear its ugly head, the more education we can learn the more we can help our domesticated equine.
Here are a few memories of my beloved friend Nick
GOD bless you and your family two and four-legged!

Nick is happy, healthy and most likely kicking up his heels now. I know what it’s like to miss a four-legged buddy, so my heart knows yours. Be well and stay blessed.

Hello dear friends,
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Nic. He was indeed a very special and magnificent Mammoth Donkey. My name is Kelly and I am the one blessed to care for Nic for the past 8 1/2 years. There is no doubt that Nic died too young, but Nic had a great disadvantage from birth: Nic was born with OCD (osteochondrosis) which is a joint disease. This disease caused Nic’s joints to become inflammed and abrnormally large at a very young age. When Nic developed an abscess in his RF foot in December of 2011 it was most likely due (according to our vet’s opinion) to concussion from compensating on his RF foot to relieve pain from the left knee joint. We would have been able to manage this abscess and offset any laminitis had Nic had a few good legs to stand on. Unfortunately, all joints were compromised from the OCD.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone interested in Mammoth Donkeys and/or considering having one as a companion to research OCD. Then research the bloodlines and lineage of the Mammoth Donkey you are interested in. Check out size. Were they breeding for size? Many breeders in the equine world now want size: big draft horses, big mules, big donkeys. Big, big, big. Often Mother Nature will not accomodate the breeders desires and the equine pays the price. If your Mammoth is growing tall quickly have your attending veterinarian do x-rays and put your Mammoth Donkey on a high end joint supplement. Nic was on joint supplements and polyglycan injections. This regimine allowed Nic a lot of extra years.
I thank you all for your love of Nic. Nic spent the past 4 years living on 10 beautiful acres with 4 of his best buddies. He loved his life. He loved us. He is a lesson in love, bravery and determination for us all. The last 6 days Nic was comfortable and at ease. He was allowed anything he wanted and was surrounded by his buddies. He died in my arms and I will forever hold him in my heart.
I love you dear Nic……………………
Warm regards,
Kelly
