Dear Scott & Melody ,
I am in need of help, immediately!
When you hear the news, you will understand why.
Earlier this month, at the request of Animal Control, People Helping Horses assisted in the seizure of 26 starving horses.
Late on a Monday night Officer Diaz called me. She didn’t waste any time before asking,
“How much room do you have in your barn?” Her next sentence made my heart stop: “I need to seize 26 horses, TOMORROW.”
As the implications of what she was asking sunk in, my whole body shook with emotion. In my mind I knew there was absolutely no way I could meet the needs of 26 new animals.
Yet, I knew that People Helping Horses is the only rescue in our area that can even come close to accommodating such numbers. The only other alternative for the 26, already hurting and abused horses, would be the auction yard; in other words, death.
I couldn’t let that happen. For me there was no choice, I had to help!
Then I remembered that it wouldn’t be just me helping. It would be YOU as well.
You have proven yourself to value the life of each and every horse, and I knew that if I agreed to take on this challenge, YOU would partner with me and help in any way you were able.
So, although I knew that on paper there was no way to come up with the finances it requires to undertake such a large group of sick and starving horses, I said yes.
