This petition was successful in stopping the donkey roping event in Van Horn for their Frontier Days weekend June 23-24, 2012 therefore I will be ending it today.
I hope to work for legislation aimed directly at banning donkey roping at any event, public or private, in Texas.
The supporters of this petition still want Jason Owen to relinquish all of the donkeys to a donkey rescue to insure their care and rehabilitation from the torture of being roped.
They would also like some confirmation that Jason, and the City of Van Horn, will never again be involved with or promote a donkey roping event. Many people have offered to help Jason and the city to promote the positive aspect of donkeys and mules in the settlement of West Texas.

NO DONKEYS AT VAN HORN FRONTIER DAYS !!!!!!
Great news. I just off the phone with a petition supporter who has been at Frontier Days in Van Horn both days. SHE HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE DONKEY ROPING EVENT WAS CANCELLED. THERE WERE NO DONKEYS THERE. She also let me know that Jason seems like a nice young man who truly did not see anything wrong with this event. He bought the donkeys from a holding area at/near El Paso Tx.
SHE BELIEVES THE BEST THING NOW IS TO HELP EDUCATE JASON, THE CITY OF VAN HORN AND IT’S CITIZENS ON WHY DONKEYS ARE NOT SUITED PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY FOR ROPING. AND SPECIFICALLY ON WAYS TO PROMOTE POSITIVE EVENTS FOR THE DONKEYS FOR 2013 LIKE CARTING AMONG MANY OTHERS. TO EMPHASIZE THE LONG HISTORY OF ‘LONGEARS’ IN THE SETTLEMENT OF WEST TEXAS.
LET US ALL THANK JASON OWEN AND CITY FOR CANCELLING.

Since I was away from blogging to perform some very important fund-raising work/PR work for local causes, I did not have a change to reblog this post until you had already succeeded! Hooray for joint efforts such as this. Great for the donkeys!

Thank you for taking time to read my blog and comment on it. If you would like to help one more time I have created a new post named “The Power of The Internet Is Amazing” – A cry from Elephant Advocacy Blog to help an asian elephant named Mali. Thank you for reading my blog and re-blogging to help the animals.

Educating Jason and people like him is a very worthwhile and noble thing to do. Maybe petitions that are successful like this one will be a catalyst for this kind of change. Happy for those donkeys!!!!
