This is lovely! I especially appreciate the kindness, including keeping the hoof low to the ground to be kind to their joints. If every equine-owner/caretaker knew these points while raising and gentling the young ones, how many well-adjusted and calm hoof cleanings there would be! Very nice video. Thanks for sharing! Hi Gina,
So nice for you to stop by my blog and take a moment to comment. The most important part of training our equine (donkeys, mules and horses) is taming taking the time it takes so they can get their hooves trimmed every 7 weeks. My horse and donkeys have their hooves picked out each morning with no halter on while they eat their breakfast it is just a normal part of life. So important as the domesticated equine has a grim life if they can not have their hooves trimmed and picked out.

Great video. At least I will now have an idea what I am doing if I ever have to deal with a donkey. You never know. Actually, the one rescue I have started dealing with lately does have donkeys, so it might come in useful far sooner than I would have thought.

So ya pick out a donkey’s hooves different than ya do a horse? Cause on a horse, ya bring the back leg out and over your knee.

Hi Cougar,
Most important part of the donkey is taming the donkey before picking the hoof. Rub, rub, rub, massage and take your time each of us hold the foot a bit different no doubt but the main point is pick the hooves out each day and make sure the donkey is not afraid of you so the farrier can come every 7 weeks to do the trim.
Hope all is great on your farm!
