I love your blog. You have some of the most interesting stories and images. I love your big donkey too. I never had donkeys with my horses, but the farm where I work has a zebra we got when it was six days old. I have posted Marty on my other blog, but I think I might have him on GWGT too. The problem getting his picture is that you can’t sneak up on him. He gets too close to the camera and no pictures can be had.

Thank you very much for reading my blog and taking the time to comment, love your blog too. Perhaps you will get some photos and send me some I don’t have any zebra photos. I would try to take his picture when he is relaxed and eating, sorry I have no experience with zebras. You made me smile.

I try when he is grazing, but he is far more alert than horses, and knows I am coming long before I get to him in the pasture. He comes running up before I can even focus. He tries to knock the camera out of my hand like he is jealous of it or something.

So you are in the pasture with the Zebra not on the outside of the fence? Yes, I have read Zebras are really fast but they can learn to not be afraid of the human. Interesting… Try walking away from the Zebra and pretend you have something wonderful in your hands (camera) ignore him. Before you know it I would guess the Zebra will be coming up to you. Make sure your energy is in neutral at all times and stay safe. Make a game out of it where he is checking you out to see what you are doing. Don’t even try to take his picture until you have tamed the Zebra.
Let me know how it goes next time you go to the pasture, interesting…

Please make sure you are always safe with the zebra.

I must have not been very clear. The zebra is tame and the problem is he does come up and not stay far enough back to get a photo. He is very friendly and likes to be near people, just too near.

Oops I did not understand my mistake. I really cannot coach you on a zebra I have no experience. The only thing I can say is protect your space, say whoaa when the zebra gets to close, do a jumping jack, snap your fingers or wave your arms. He should back up a bit for you as I doubt any humans have been doing this
Perhaps you can come around him when it is time for feeding to get his pictures or hang outside his pasture. I’m sorry like I said earlier I have no advice for zebras, none….

Even the owner tried to keep it away from me, but Marty is one smart zebra. She tried by throwing pears, a favorite of his, and he still would not move away. Oh, well, I do have some good photos. Thanks for thinking of options.
