Living On Donkey Time

Howdy,

Seems life is so darn busy and everyone is in such a hurry I find myself thinking “Just one moment please” while talking to people.  Here at the Donkey Whisperer Farm we have one Mammoth donkey, one mini donkey, one horse, three dogs and two cats.  Donkeys are on “Donkey Time”, they live in their moment and move at their speed and never ever get rushed.  I make a point to try to live like the donkeys as life is precious and fragile and there is no need to get all worked up in traffic, a slow waiter, resolving medical billing, or just coordinating the repair of one of our home appliances.  Whenever I start to feel anxious I stop and think to myself “I am on donkey time”, kinda like living in Hawaii life is slow and wonderful.

When I feel my neck get tight and my heart starting to race I stop and pray ask GOD to help me and think about Donkey Time as I want to stay on donkey time the rest of my life.  Getting upset, worrying, crying, just creates a headache for me and when my body is finished with this reaction nothing has changed.  When I stay in faith with GOD and trust GOD is working to fix all the things gone astray and not only fix them but bring us out in favor in a better place than where we started every wrinkle in my face is wiped away.  My horse is learning to be more calm but she is a horse and a horse with the same personality as me AAA, living with her big step brother the mammoth donkey keeps her calm.   Several times during the winter months we have seventy mile hour winds on our farm, trees snap, branches fly and our big Mammoth donkey lays down in the middle of the storm and eats the tree limbs like they are treats from heaven.  I am trying to use this scenario for me when life is difficult and things don’t seem to be going right this is the time I must sit down and pray and wait for GOD.

I pray my transparency helps you if you are in the middle of a storm.  Remember living on donkey time is easy simply lay down inside your mind while you are in the middle of the storm, pray for peace and wisdom and wait for GOD.  Pray for all things and wait as great things always come after the storm in life if we stay in faith with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

One Day Of Sunshine

 

Howdy,

All my animals give me such great care and I am so grateful for them my equine continue to push me to stay moving forward, several times I have thought about having to give up my farm but GOD keeps giving me the strength to push forward.  Equine truly help the human move forward and stay physical even when we can’t ride as they need us.  If you are having a hard time finding positive things to do with your time please consider volunteeering for rescue organziations as this is one of the most rewarding win-win opportunites.  Remember volunteering has no cost to you other than your time.  Animals truly heal the human they are gifts from GOD just for us humans to help us stay positive and keep a GOD sent purpose in our life.

We continue to ask for prayer to remove all the pain and suffering in my body and we continue to stand in awe of GOD for saving my life and giving me the ability to walk after surviving a life threatening motor vehicle accident with a semi truck.  The three rods surgically installed in my pelvis cause me great pain and stiffness but I never forget I could be sitting in a wheel chair.  I could have lost my legs so quickly GOD is truly amazing.  The Physiatrist has given me the lead to purchase new Joya shoes and Z-coil shoes these help but do not stop the spinal cord trauma pain as every step I take sends shock waves up my back.  I highly suggest these shoes for pain management of back, hip, pelvis and spinal cord injuries they really help.

No matter what trauma or stress you are facing or a loved one is facing please know that GOD is real and GOD can fix all things and make them right.  Never give up, never as we were created to be the head and not the tail in navigating this thing called life.  Serenity Prayer helps too!

I took Lily out today and gave her a quick bath she was such a good girl I could tell the cool water felt so good on her body.  Immediately after her bath she took a nice roll in the grass with me standing next to her.  I continue to press forward and work hard to remove all the pain and suffering and never give up as staying active is necessary.  A body in motion stays in motion a body at rest stays at rest.

I pray that you find health, peace and great wisdom in knowing Jesus Christ as he is my LORD and savior and without GOD I could not continue to endure the amount of pain and suffering placed on my shoulders.

Tips For Pain Management

Howdy,

I have learned that awareness is part of the healing process for any event and being honest within ourselves and all the people around us. I am officially a survivor of a semi truck accident and I suffer from severe episodes of pain daily I have not had one day pain-free since the accident on April 13, 2010. 

Pain is a serious problem and it affects all aspects of my life and millions of people every day. It is my prayer that by sharing some of my tips I can help another human suffering from pain. I pray in Jesus Christ precious name that my pain and navigation in  the medical world helps you or your loved one get out of pain and enjoy your life. 

I have learned that pain robs us of the person we were before the pain came and pain isolates us.  Pain creates less patience, less sleep, raw human emotions and pain hurts the living humans and animals closest to us our two and four leg family members as we can’t play everything is work.  Seems the most simplest of things I never thought about such as feeding, throwing the ball, driving, picking up manure, grocery shopping, making dinner, laundry and putting my equine out into the arena is very difficult and painful. 

Ideas To Help Manage Pain

1.  Pray to GOD in Jesus Christ precious name for a complete healing and a miracle of healing, restoration and health

2.  Pray that GOD will give you favor to find the human angels that can help you with your pain

3.  Go to physical therapy as they can help with pain and when you finish physical therapy keep going to the gym

4. Pray GOD will provide you with a GOD sent massage therapist as this is what GOD did for me

5. Find the right drug for pain that can help you get out of pain and still enjoy your life

6. Laughter is GODs medicine, find something funny every day and turn that frown upside down

7.  Friendship is extremely important as pain isolates humans try to stay connected to people

8.  Ensure you have a second opinion of your pain

9.  Stop and smell the roses in your life, be grateful for at least five things every single day

10. Try acupuncture

11.  Ask for help with your life as pain makes it difficult to navigate life with pain, I highly suggest you pray for a christian counselor or christian life coach.  If the counselor you interviews does not believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins keep looking

13.  Take your vitamins

14. Eat healthy food, drink lots of water

My progress:

I continue to be grateful for the miracle from GOD of life and healing strength for my mind, body, soul and spirit!  Attend Physical Therapy twice a week and acupuncture for pain management finally the right side neuropathic pain has stopped felt like a million needles were poking me where they cut my chest open to save my life and placed four drains removing internal bleeding.   Now it just feels like someone punched me really hard in the right side and aches badly so much better than before praise GOD.  My right hip hurts something horrible and in the cold wet weather it is hard as the screws feel like they are grinding into the pelvis.  My lower back hurts bad as I am not able to walk without a limp and this causes all kinds of pain but I keep pressing forward and believing I will some day ride again.  Every day is a chance to enjoy life and I work hard to squeeze the most out of life I can as we never know when our time is up and or family and friends. 

 

Why did I choose Parelli for training?

The Parelli program has the most home study information of any natural horsemanship program in the world all at the finger tips of your computer.  Most importantly for me personally “Parelli’s leave the dignity and curiosity in the horse their spirit intact and provide the human a set of clear and concise tools to stay safe and stay in the leadership role.”  If I wanted a motorcycle or a car I would be riding one of these things I want a relationship with my animals one where I am the leader and they have the freedom to be themselves and not have their spirit ripped out of them (traditional equine training, bigger bit etc.,) I personally do not see the good in this training methodology it goes right back to my principles in life “treat people and living things how I want to be treated with dignity and respect and strong boundaries.”  Donkeys and mules can not be trained the way most horse trainers train horses they will shut down turn off and Parelli works for donkeys and mules, this is why traditional horse trainers will not attempt to train a mule or donkey!  Donkeys and mules learn best from a human who has a relationship with them not just a training must build trust with these magnificent equine.  Training a donkey or mule takes a person who has patience and a clear plan of how to train them; kinda like fishing love to go but it does not matter if you catch a fish just enjoy the moment.  The rewards are gold as donkeys never forget good or bad things ever.

Lily is doing great hives are gone and all of our equine are healthy and happy the weather has warmed up into the forties and it is truly wonderful.  This morning as I type my blog I can see the sunshine like spot lights shooting through our trees on our farm with moss glistening off each tree in the cool temperature.  Living in the Pacific Northwest is beautiful always bright green full of life and when we get a morning like today it is like a Walt Disney movie all the colors and textures GOD has created are full of life.  As I write this blog it is raining and I mean raining hard it has been raining since yesterday about 3:00pm and lighting and thunder.  This brings me to an important consideration when planning, building or upgrading an equines paddock in the Pacific Northwest make sure you have excellent gutters off your barns, walk thru shelter and a place for all the water to go.  We use ¾ clean gravel on the path wear the equine walk the most and this stops thrush and hoof problems as they are not standing in mud all day for months.  Additionally I use iodine solution mixed with water in a spray bottle and spray it directly on their hooves in the rainy season at least four times a week.  If you notice a smell in their hooves thrush buster  http://www.smithbrothers.com/product.asp?pn=PJ-22128&sid=froogleSALE&CATALOG_CODE=SX807&EID=X3807001&zmam=1460880&zmas=2&zmac=51&zmap=PJ-22128&bhcd2=1291824141 works the best watch out as it stains a bright purple.

 

Yesterday when I put Rio & Lily out into the arena Lily took off with a big cantor and a few bucks and then Rio mimicked her it was truly a delight to see.  Her being the horse and him the mammoth donkey they balance one another as she gets him to move his feet quickly and he takes his enormous mammoth donkey head and places it on her back to say “hey slow down enjoy the moment no need to run girl” I thank GOD every day for my farm equine as they give me so much joy and smiles.  As they run freestyle in the arena it is an amazing thing to watch as she the horse has her winter coat on and is pure white now and he the (mammoth donkey) is jet black with big white eyes, white muzzle and a pure white belly, super soft and cuddly.  Little Rocket Man has his Eskimo winter coat on and I can hardly see his little eyes when the snow came last week he refused to step outside stayed in the barn.  Rocket Man is 16 now and I am sure he knows what the snow is and prefers to be warm. 

 

The other day while feeding breakfast for our equine I observed the equine herd balancing act, truly amazing moment to witness.   The boys Rio and Rocket Man were in their barn (both barns are open to all) and Lily walked in; With just a look little Rocket Man took off running out of the barn and believe me it is not easy to get Rocket Man to trot off he saves every calorie.  Rio is growing up now he is four this summer and he did not run off he walked off and took his right back leg balancing on the other three and tapped lily in the but not a kick just a tap and a look that said “yes I am moving but some day I may not move for you.”  I am amazed every time I see the donkeys use one leg so easily never see the  horse do this always two legs this is another special gift GOD gave the donkey the strength and balance of an acrobat swinging truly amazing to see.

 

Christmas is almost here and soon it will be a new year oh how excited we are to bring in 2011 as GOD is sending double for our troubles and soon this difficult time will be just a tale and a memory.  I will forever wear the scars of the semi truck accident and walk with a limp but oh how grateful I am to still be here and able to keep my equine and the Donkey Whisperer farm.  Please keep sharing good things with others and stay positive as no problem is too big for GOD in Jesus Christ name amen.
