Donkeys Are Stoic Will Not Show Pain Until It Is Too Late

Donkeys on the whole do not show their feelings of pain in very obvious ways, but behave as a human would who is called ‘stoical’, i.e. tolerating pain without complaint. They may make an initial violent movement of avoidance, but after that they become silent and as nearly as possible immobile in the face of pain and/or fear.

Therefore it is sometimes difficult to know when they are suffering acutely, and their behavior may look like ‘stubbornness’ rather than stoicism.

One indicator of pain or fear can be diarrhea, just as in humans. Since this may also dehydrate the donkey, it will be adding to its problems if it persists. A donkey who stops eating and drinking is at risk for death.

Please call the vet ASAP to save your donkeys life.

Donkeys Evolved From The Desert – COLIC IS LIFE THREATING

DONKEYS EVOLVED FROM THE DESERT – LEARN HOW TO FEED YOUR DONKEY AND KEEP YOUR DONKEY HEALTHY

Donkeys are stoic meaning “Donkeys will not show pain until it is too late.” You must call the vet asap when a donkey is sick. Death comes quickly as the donkey has not shown how sick her or she is. Pick up the poop every day and compost. This way you know how much your donkey is pooping. It is vital to the health and life of your donkey to be alert to your donkeys personality, behavior and life patterns of eating and pooping.

Make sure your neighbors are not feeding your donkey. DONKEYS DIE FROM BEING FED THE WRONG FOODS OR TOO MUCH FOOD OR WOOD, BARK ETC.,

Move the fence and pasture away from people throwing food. Grass clippings, apples, bread etc., can kill your donkey quick.

What are the signs of Colic in a donkey?

Donkeys eyes looked glazed over, head may be low and your donkey looks sick. Or head is moving constantly.

Donkey is refusing to eat and is not acting like his normal behavior off all alone. Not interacting with the rest of the herd or you!

Donkey is pawing, rolling and not stopping this behavior. Some donkeys will roll and paw when bored but this stops quickly. If you see this happening over and over it is time to call the vet. Donkeys die from colic quickly.

Donkey can be shaking

Sweating. A donkey that is sweating is sick and needs a vet asap

Has not pooped. Donkeys should be pooping and urinating often

Donkey refuses to drink or eat. Donkeys love to eat. We must not let a donkey over eat.

Donkey is breathing really fast, check the heart rate

Gums are bright red

What is colic?

Colic is a symptom rather than a disease, and defined as abdominal pain. Colic can be the direct cause of the following issues:

Change of diet – Can not poop. Or blockages meaning food is not being digested, gas

Muscles can be cramping and spasming

Parasites

Pancreatitis

The gut has twisted

Ulcers in the stomach

Ten Things Donkeys Want You To Know

Howdy,

1.   Most important – Please don’t beat me or punish me for being slow and not moving fast enough unlike the horse I can think all the time. If I over react understand I am stressed.

2.  I enjoy being talked to, brushed and loved on when I am sure you will not hurt me. I will not eat if stressed. I am a donkey, donkeys are seriously into self-preservation.

3.  I learn different from the horse I am a visual learner.  I learn by watching from an honor horse, mule or another honor donkey or you doing something with me standing and watching at a safe distance.  Please walk away from me with scary new things and let me come to you on my time I am scared of new things and need you to slow down.

4. I prefer clean water, warm water in the winter and low sugar, protein hay as I gain weight fast I was created to live in the desert.

5. I am really smart please do not leave me all alone, give me a companion I prefer a donkey but will take a horse or mule.

6. I need my hooves trimmed just like the horse.

7. I need my teeth taken care of just like the horse. I need a vet check once a year.

8. Please feed me at least two small meals a day when I am on a dry pasture and never feed me alfalfa hay or grass clippings.

9. I like to play with toys, orange traffic cone, feed bowl or jolly ball I am smart and get bored easy just like you.

10.  I am special GOD gave me a cross on my back and I am the only animal in the bible GOD gave the ability to talk.

Donkey Basketball Is Wrong – Why Do People Laugh?

We are all about donkeys

Donkey Whisperer Farm is all about donkeys! We celebrate, educate and promote these magnificent and intelligent beings. We are dedicated to building public awareness about equine personality, behavior and are deeply invested in educating and empowering you with safe, holistic, resistance-free training methods that foster a strong bond between you and your equine. The Donkey Whisperer Farm is home to one Mammoth donkey, two standard donkeys, three miniature donkeys and two horses.

I ride my Mammoth donkey Rio Johnson, 16’2 with no bit and no spurs. He is trained by me with words and touch, my legs and hands.

I am the voice for the most humble and smartest equine the donkey.  Donkeys evolved from the desert. Donkeys are deep thinkers, donkeys never forget anything good or bad ever. God created the donkey to be smart and humble, not stubborn. People who bully the donkey are frustrated as they do not understand the donkeys intelligence, ability to survive. Self-preservation is number one to the donkey.

A Few Things To Think About

The donkey can carry no more than 20% of the weight of the donkey.

The donkey bucks and fights as the weight is way too heavy. The seat is not in the correct position as would be for a horse. Or the donkey is scared to death. Fight or Flight just like humans.

Dragging the donkey by the face. All of my donkeys walk next to me, stand for the farrier, send into the stall and turn around to get the halter off.

Making the donkey buck, fall down and fear humans is very difficult to repair.  Trust is easy to destroy and in some cases can never be earned again with a donkey.

Most Donkey Basketball events are for fundraising at public schools. I guess bullying is funny as long as it is against the most humble donkey.

Advocates of Donkey Basketball:

  1.  The donkeys are cared for and well fed, only the best for the donkey.

2.   The donkey is not going to slaughter.

What A Donkey Needs:

  1. Treat me with respect and dignity, do not let people pull on my face and have me in a loud noise situation, I do not like chaos.
  2. Weight limits apply to donkeys as they do horses.
  3. Ride us in the correct place not on the neck, rear etc, the same as a horse.
  4. When we are kicking and running away it means we are not having fun!
  5. When we stop moving our feet or lay down we are scared to death. This does not mean we are stubborn.

Never Clip The Whiskers Off A Horse, Donkey or Mule

Donkey Whisperer Farm ®

whiskers-684x454In the midst of the marshmallow-soft skin are scattered, course hairs, called vibrissae, or tactile hairs. These whiskers are a result of millions of years of evolution to help horses sense their environment.whiskersssss

They’re HAIRS, not sensory organs. If they were truly connected to nerve endings, it would be painful to cut them.

They’re used much like a cat’s whiskers for spacial placing, but it’s simply not true it hurts, makes horses eat toxic plants, or causes mental distress to cut them off.

Cutting those hairs can lead to injuries as a result of horses failing to avoid obstacles near their faces. Because horse’s eyes are set on the side of their heads. they have a blind spot in front of and right under their noses. So, their whiskers act as a sort of “third eye” helping them to negotiate objects close to their noses, such as food, water and…
