Small Farms Of America Are Dying

Shop In Our Store

Owning a small farm is a dream come true for me and my husband Scott. As children we both have found memories of the family farms. Now that we are in our late fifties something has drastically changed, small farms are being sold for cash something most farmers would never think of doing ever.

What has changed over the last sixty years?

Big farms can sell their produce much cheaper than small farms.  Customers support the big farm over the small farm by shopping in the store over and over and not thinking about the little farm down the road.  Another huge issue; the new workforce does not want to work as hard as a farmer they want a desk job no more than eight hours with a half hour lunch.

In the past people started farms for the lifestyle and the freedom to work hard and earn a fair living. Today if a person wants to start a small farm, they had better have a full-time job or savings to pay for it. Why? Farming is expensive it’s not a business anymore but more of a hobby for most people new to farming. No profit is seen for up to seven or ten years. That’s a long time to not get any profit while working seven days a week, long hours and no vacation ever. Farmers rarely take a vacation as the cost is not prohibitive to leave the farm.

Please support small farms. Purchase from our store  now.

Try Something New

Something wonderful happens when we step out into this big world and try something new. We remove the boredom of life the instant we step out and we feel a thrill.  Life is never easy or perfect. Mistakes will and do happen when we try to do new things. “Masters repeat the process no matter what it is until they get it right, people who fail are masters too. The difference is the masters failed and learned from their mistakes. Practice makes perfect when we take the time to learn what needs to change. Usually this change begins within ourselves”. Take the time needed to learn how to do something new today. If not today pencil it into your life soon. Life is moving so fast, we only have a limited amount here on earth.

My husband and I canned pears. They turned out amazing.

For The Love Of Farms

Peace, Balance, Purpose and Love

We sold all of our hay in 24 hours

Hubby working on the irrigation ditch. Farmers work hard.

We sold all of our hay in 24 hours! We will get one more cutting this year as we have irrigation. See you soon.

Thank you Jesus! The weather was most difficult this spring. We are excited to share all of our hard work paid off. Farmers pray!

For The Love Of Bees

Living on a farm brings all kinds of interesting insects and critters. Our last mini farm had black bear, cougars and bob cats in western WA.

This farm has some unique insects. Bees. We have been farming with no pesticides since 2013. Lady bugs are flying around everywhere this is a seriously good sign. Today we found bees drilling the sand and clay on our farm. They did not try to attack us.

Did you know Mason bees are useful for the farm?

Before killing an insect we must be sure we know the purpose in mother nature. God created every creature to have a purpose.

I hope you find this post educational and interesting.

Clean water is a must! Donkeys love clean water and warm water in the winter. Please understand water is the key to keeping the digestive tract moving. The more water your donkey drinks the better.

PLEASE CALL YOUR VET IMMEDIATELY! Colic is a symptom rather than a disease, and defined as abdominal pain. Donkeys are stoic will not show pain until it is too late. This means your donkey can die and sadly many donkey do die from the owner not calling the vet. Colic is very painful!

Donkeys are stoic meaning they will never show pain until it is too late! Have your vet out for a physical at least once a year and make sure your vet understands donkeys. Donkeys are not horses with long ears. Everything about a donkey is unique to treat in the vet world. Donkeys digest drugs…
